Shanghai Stocks Hit Over 7-Week Low
The Shanghai Composite fell 0.74% to close at 4,028 on Friday, its lowest level since mid-April, while the Shenzhen Component tumbled 2.21% to 15,315, pressured by weakness in heavyweight technology stocks. Among the biggest decliners were Zhongji Innolight (-7.81%), Eoptolink Technology (-3.60%), NAURA Technology (-3.77%), Cambricon Technologies (-4.39%), and Hygon Information Technology (-4.10%), as an underwhelming AI outlook from Broadcom dampened sentiment toward the sector. Market sentiment was also weighed down by renewed tensions in the Middle East after Tehran launched strikes on Kuwait and US forces conducted military operations near the Strait of Hormuz, even as Israel and Lebanon reached a ceasefire agreement. For the week, the Shanghai Composite declined 1%, marking its fourth consecutive weekly loss, while the Shenzhen Component shed 1.67% for a second straight week of declines.
