China Stocks Fall on Profit-Taking

The Shanghai Composite slipped 0.18% to close at 3,822 while the Shenzhen Component lost 0.29% to 13,120 on Tuesday, giving back prior-session gains as investors booked profits in high-flying growth stocks.

Mainland markets have grown prone to profit-taking after the Shanghai index hit ten-year highs earlier this month.

Traders also kept an eye on trade developments following last week’s call between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, with the two leaders set to meet face-to-face in South Korea in six weeks.

On the policy front, the People’s Bank of China on Monday left key lending rates unchanged for the fourth straight month, as authorities remain reluctant to deploy major stimulus despite signs of economic weakness.

Still, the central bank pledged to use monetary policy tools to support liquidity and the broader economy.

Among individual names, Cambricon Technologies (-3.4%), Dawning Information (-2.4%) and Contemporary Amperex (-0.5%) posted notable losses.

Chinese Stocks Post Weekly Gains
The Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.33% to close at 4,080 on Friday, while the Shenzhen Component Index dropped 0.69% to 14,940, as fading hopes for a swift resolution to Middle East tensions weighed on sentiment. President Trump’s reported order authorising naval forces to “shoot and kill” vessels allegedly laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz pushed oil prices higher again, stoking global inflation concerns. Chinese exporters are seen raising prices as several consumer goods posted sharp annual increases in March. Investor sentiment was further dampened by White House accusations that China engaged in large-scale intellectual property theft from US AI labs, adding friction ahead of a planned leaders’ summit next month. In corporate news, DeepSeek released a preview of its highly anticipated V4 model. Meanwhile, Eoptolink Technology slumped 11.67% despite solid Q1 earnings results. Despite Friday’s losses, the Shanghai Composite still rose 0.7%, and the Shenzhen Component added 0.37%.
