China Official Services PMI Beats Forecasts

The official NBS Non-Manufacturing PMI in China ticked up to 50.3 in August 2024 from July's 8-month low of 50.2, exceeding market consensus of 50.0.
The latest result marked the 20th successive month of expansion in the service sector, with a decline in new orders softened (46.3 vs 45.7), reflecting the effect of summer consumption.
Meanwhile, new export orders (47.6 vs 49.6) and employment (45.2 vs 45.5) remained weak.
Simultaneously, delivery time barely changed (50.6 vs 50.5).
On the price side, input cost fell after rising in July, marking the fifth time of decreases year to date (48.6 vs 50.4).
In the meantime, selling prices declined for the 11th consecutive month, with their contraction being the steepest in the sequence (47.2 vs 48.2).
Finally, business confidence weakened further despite staying highly positive (55.3 vs 56.1).
