China has urged the European Union (EU) to immediately halt the inclusion of Chinese enterprises in the bloc’s 19th package of sanctions against Russia, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce said Thursday, as Xinhua reported.
Despite repeated negotiations and efforts to dissuade the EU, the bloc has refused to change course, once again listing Chinese companies and imposing sanctions on major Chinese oil refineries and traders for the first time, the spokesperson added.
China has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions that lack a legal basis under international law or authorization from the United Nations, the spokesperson said.
Beijing stressed that it will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises, as well as its energy security and economic development.
