The RatingDog China General Manufacturing PMI rose to 51.2 in September 2025, surpassing both August’s 50.5 and the market consensus of 50.3.

This marked the highest reading since March, matching the level seen that month.

Output grew at the fastest pace in three months, while new export orders rose for the first time in six months.

Additionally, new business expanded at the quickest rate since February.

As a result, purchasing activity increased solidly, with the rate of growth the fastest seen since last November.

Meanwhile, employment declined amid concerns over costs.

Supply conditions improved, highlighted by the first reduction in average lead times in seven months.

On prices, input cost inflation accelerated to a 10-month high, driven by higher metal prices.

However, selling prices fell slightly amid strong competition.

Looking ahead, business sentiment improved amid hopes of rising sales and production, supported by business development efforts and government policies.

New orders rose for the fifteenth consecutive month, the longest period of growth since 2018, supported by the fastest rise in foreign sales in six months. Output grew for nine consecutive months, with the latest expansion being the strongest in three months. Meanwhile, employment was steady after rising in the previous two months, while backlogs rose for the seventh month running at the fastest rate since March. Purchasing activity rose after falling in July, while delivery times were little changed compared with July. On the price front, input price inflation accelerated for the first time in four months, though modestly, due to higher material prices. However, output prices fell for the first time in 2026 so far. Lastly, business sentiment weakened to a seven-month low.

Output continued to rise, while new orders increased for the 14th consecutive month, the longest streak since 2018, supported by stronger foreign sales, which rose for the first time in three months. Meanwhile, employment increased for the second straight month, with job creation reaching its strongest level since August 2023. Delivery times lengthened for the fifth consecutive month, but the extent of the delays remained only marginal. On the price front, input price inflation eased for the third consecutive month to its weakest level since January. Meanwhile, output prices were unchanged after six consecutive months of increases. Finally, business sentiment improved, supported by expectations of stronger market demand, new product development, expanded production capacity, and increased efficiency.
