China Food Prices Rise at Softer Pace

Food prices in China increased by 2.9% year-on-year in October 2024, slowing from the steepest rise in 20 months of 3.3% in the previous month while marking the third consecutive month of gains.
Cost eased for fresh vegetables (21.6% vs 22.9% in September), fresh fruit (4.7% vs 6.7%), and pork (14.2% vs 16.2%).
In addition, prices continued to decline for cooking oils (-3.8% vs -3.7%), eggs (-2.5% vs -4.1%), and milk (-1.7% vs -1.9%).
