The value of outstanding loans from the Brazilian financial sector edged up by 0.3% from the previous month, remaining at R$7.4 trillion in July 2026, slowing from a 0.7% increase in June.
Loans extended to corporations fell 0.7%, remaining at R$2.7 trillion, while household lending edged up 0.8%, also remaining broadly unchanged at R$4.6 trillion.
On an annual basis, total credit expanded 9.5%, down from the 9.7% growth recorded in June.
Household lending continued to outpace corporate credit, rising 10.8% year-on-year, while lending to legal entities slowed further to 7.4% from 7.9%.
Meanwhile, credit with free resources totaled R$4.2 trillion, broadly unchanged from the prior month, although the level edged 0.1% downward from the previous month and increased 7% from a year earlier.
Stronger household credit with free resources (up 1%) offset a monthly decline of 1.9% in corporate lending.
Nevertheless, both remained higher than a year earlier.
