The NZX 50 lost 20 points, or 0.2%, to close at 13,632 on Tuesday, after trading flat in morning deals, extending losses for a third straight session and touching its lowest level since September 16.
The decline was mainly driven by losses in the energy, materials, and financial sectors.
Traders were cautious ahead of the release of Q3 inflation data due this week, which could guide the RBNZ's interest rate decision.
Investors continued to monitor oil prices and inflation risks amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, while Russia eased some restrictions on energy exports.
However, an upbeat session on Wall Street overnight, supported by a rebound in the tech sector, capped the decline.
Among the biggest laggards were Channel Infrastructure (-4.1%), Westpac Banking Corp.
(-3.0%), Freightways Group (-2.7%), Mainfreight (-1.9%), Delegat Group (-1.9%), Hallenstein Glasson (-1.2%), and Infratil (-1.0%).
