New Zealand’s exports increased 25% year-on-year to NZD 8.1 billion in June 2026, after an 8.1% rise in the previous month.

Export growth was mainly driven by higher sales of milk powder, butter, and cheese (16%); meat and edible offal (52%); preparations of milk, cereals, flour, and starch (130%); and aluminum and aluminum articles (74%).

New Zealand Exports Hit Record High
New Zealand’s exports increased 18.1% year-on-year to a record high of NZD 8.9 billion in May 2026, after a downwardly revised 7.7% rise in the previous month. The export growth was mainly driven by higher sales of milk powder, butter, and cheese (6.9%), precious metals, jewellery, and coins (54.4%); meat and edible offal (42.8%); logs, wood, and wood articles (136%), and fruit (11.2%). However, exports fell for mechanical machinery and equipment (-11.4%) and preparations of milk, cereals, flour, and starch (-10.3%). Among trading partners, exports to China rose 10.3%, while shipments to Australia, the US, and Japan increased by 32.9%, 28.7%, and 30.8%, respectively. Exports to the EU also grew by 15.2%. In contrast, outbound shipments to Hong Kong and Germany fell by 3.6% and 25.8%, respectively.

Export growth was driven by higher sales of precious metals, jewellery, and coins (149%); meat and edible offal (26%); milk powder, butter, and cheese (7.0%); and crude oil (388%). Among trading partners, exports grew to China (3.9%), Australia (27%), the US (19%), the EU (30%), and Japan (9.8%)
