DAX Starts Week on Negative Note

The DAX 40 fell about 0.3% to below 26,100 on Monday, reversing gains from the prior session, pressured by technology stocks, amid nervousness ahead of Nvidia’s earnings.

Investors also awaited details on new US sanctions on Iran due later in the day.

The US administration recently stated its intention to increase economic pressure on Iran and its trading partners in order to bring about an end to the war with Iran.

Meanwhile, the Jackson Hole symposium later this week will be closely watched for clues on interest rates.

In Europe, markets broadly expect the ECB to deliver another 25-basis-point rate hike in September, following its June increase. Among key movers, Volkswagen (-1.7%), Siemens Energy (-1.2%) and SAP (-1%) posted the biggest losses.

On the upside, Brenntag (1.1%), BASF (0.9%) and Beiersdorf (0.7%) advanced the most.

DAX Advances on Monday
Frankfurt's DAX 40 rose 0.6% to around 25,450 on Monday, following a weak performance the previous session, led by tech stocks, while continued declines in oil prices helped ease inflation concerns. Constructive US-China talks ahead of their presidents' meeting on Thursday also supported sentiment. Meanwhile, Germany’s regional elections dealt a major blow to Friedrich Merz and his CDU, with populist parties gaining ground on both the right and left. The CDU secured just 4.9% in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, falling out of the state parliament for the first time, while Die Linke emerged as the strongest party in Berlin. Siemens and Infineon Technologies were the top gainers, each rising more than 2%. Other strong performers included MTU Aero Engines, Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Post, Siemens Energy and SAP. On the downside, Daimler Truck, Volkswagen, Henkel and Adidas were the biggest decliners, each falling more than 1%.

The DAX Index Opens 0.89% Higher
The DAX Index is up by 224 points or 0.89 percent on Monday. Top gainers are Siemens (2.88%), Infineon (2.63%) and MTU Aero Engines AG (1.97%). Biggest losses came from Porsche Automobil (-2.96%), Volkswagen (-1.25%) and Adidas (-1.16%).

The DAX Index Closes 1.60% Lower
The DAX Index decreased 413 points or 1.60 percent on Friday to close at 25304 points. The decline was led by Volkswagen (-5.97%), Porsche Automobil (-5.19%) and Mercedes-Benz AG (-4.76%).
