2026-08-12 07:55 By Luisa Carvalho 1 min. read

The DAX 40 edged up to around 26,430 on Wednesday, marking a fresh high and extending its winning run to five sessions.

Traders monitored more corporate earnings and eyed geopolitical developments ahead of the release of a key US inflation report.

Gains were largely driven by technology and industrial stocks, outweighing losses in consumer cyclicals, telecommunications companies, and automakers.

Siemens Energy and Rheinmetall performed strongly, rising 3.9% and 2.4%, respectively.

Chipmaker Infineon Technologies and AI-related Hochtief followed, up around 1.6% each.

TKMS jumped over 11% as investors welcomed solid results and an upgraded full-year revenue outlook from the naval shipbuilder.

On the downside, TUI dropped nearly 2% after Europe's largest travel company missed Q3 operating profit expectations.

Brenntag fell 1.6% despite reporting solid second-quarter performance, driven by higher chemical prices, and raised its full-year earnings outlook.

DAX Little Changed
Frankfurt's DAX 40 was little changed around 25,585 on Wednesday, as traders continued to assess diplomatic efforts to end the Middle East conflict. Oil prices extended their slide amid growing signs that a potential agreement between the US and Iran could help end the war and facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, flash services PMI data for Germany surprised on the upside. SAP, MTU Aero Engines, Siemens and Rheinmetall were among the top performers, rising between 0.8%-2%. On the slip side, Daimler Truck, Scout24, Deutsche Telekom and Infineon Technologies faced heavy selling pressure.

DAX Closes on Cautious Note
Frankfurt's DAX 40 closed virtually unchanged at 25,579 on Tuesday after a volatile session, as caution prevailed. Brent crude fell before settling back around $100 a barrel after reports that Tehran had offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 7 days if the US lifted its blockade of its ports. The proposal could serve as a basis for talks with countries mediating on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Speaking in New York, President Trump defended the conflict, saying he could “annihilate” Iran but expected a deal after the US midterm elections. Locally, political concerns persisted after Germany’s CDU suffered its worst-ever result in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, winning no seats and prompting calls for Chancellor Merz to step down. Solid gains in tech, travel-related stocks and retailers were offset by weakness in insurers, banks and telecoms. Among the top gainers were Zalando (3.7%), Lufthansa (3.3%), GEA Group (2.8%), Adidas (2.6%) and Infineon (2.5%).
