The DAX Index Closes 0.58% Lower

The DAX Index fell -143 points or 0.58 percent on Wednesday to close at 24637 points. Leading the losses are HeidelbergCement (-9.89%), Siemens (-6.19%) and Deutsche Bank (-4.91%). Top gainers were Brenntag (8.97%), Deutsche Telekom (5.65%) and Continental (5.56%).

Frankfurt’s DAX 40 slipped 0.4% to 24,680 on Wednesday, weighed down by a renewed sell-off in tech stocks as investors assessed the impact of new AI-related tools on traditional business models. Infineon, SAP, and Siemens all fell more than 3%. Market attention was also on corporate earnings, with Infineon reporting strong AI-driven demand in its first fiscal quarter and a smaller-than-expected decline in operating margin, while focus will shift to Alphabet’s results after the US market close. Meanwhile, all eyes are on tomorrow’s ECB policy decision, where rates are widely expected to remain unchanged as policymakers gauge the deflationary impact of a stronger euro. Geopolitical developments also drew attention: Russian and Ukrainian negotiators are meeting in Abu Dhabi to discuss a potential end to the conflict, while the US military reportedly shot down an Iranian surveillance drone near Iran’s southern coast.

The DAX Index is up by 63 points or 0.26 percent on Wednesday. Top gainers are BASF (2.85%), MTU Aero Engines AG (2.74%) and Brenntag (2.66%). Biggest losses came from HeidelbergCement (-4.95%), Merck (-2.24%) and Siemens (-1.83%).
