DAX 40 Falls on Wednesday

The DAX 40 fell about 0.4% to 25,315 on Wednesday, underperforming other European markets due to losses in heavyweight stocks.

SAP and Siemens Energy dropped more than 3%, while Airbus, Siemens, Merck and Infineon also declined, dragging the index lower.

On the other hand, Bayer jumped nearly 7% after the company outlined plans to return its pharmaceuticals business to mid-single-digit percentage growth by 2027 and target an operating margin of around 30% by 2030.

RWE gained 2.3% after being named among the developers awarded guaranteed electricity price contracts in the UK’s latest offshore wind auction, which secured a record level of capacity.

Investors were watching a high-level meeting between US, Danish and Greenlandic officials focused on the future of Greenland, after renewed comments from President Trump about acquiring the island.

Separately, Czechoslovak Group announced plans for a major IPO in Amsterdam, aiming to tap into a regional defense spending boom.

The DAX Index Closes 0.16% Lower
The DAX Index decreased 41 points or 0.16 percent on Friday to close at 24986 points. The decline was led by Volkswagen (-4.58%), Adidas (-1.71%) and Beiersdorf (-1.54%). On the upside, the strongest performers were Rheinmetall (2.67%), Bayer (1.86%) and Porsche Automobil (1.52%).

DAX Snaps 6-Day Rally, Still Books Weekly Gain
The DAX 40 closed about 0.2% lower at 25,026 on Friday, snapping a six-day advance, after a volatile session marked by futures and options expiry. The focus remained on the Middle East following the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran this week. Investors turned cautious amid the postponement of nuclear talks aimed at securing a lasting peace agreement in the Middle East, though negotiations are expected to resume soon. Mediators including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey are due to meet in Egypt on Sunday. Among losers, Volkswagen dropped more than 4% and underperformed as it traded ex-dividend for the first time. In contrast, defense stocks saw increased demand, led by Rheinmetall (1.8%), Renk (1.5%), Hensoldt (1.5%). Also, automakers showed signs of recovery, with Mercedes-Benz Group surging 1,9%, on reports that the EU is preparing tariffs on Chinese plug-in hybrid vehicles. For the week, the index advanced about 1.6%.

DAX Poised to Book Weekly Gain
The DAX 40 rose about 0.5% to around 25,145 on Friday, its highest level in over two weeks, and was on track to post a 2.1% weekly gain. The index was supported by a recovery in automotive stocks, with Mercedes Benz-Group and BMW adding 2% each, as well as gains in defense giant Rheinmetall (2%) and Infineon (1.6%). Volkswagen slumped 3.6%,however, as it traded ex-dividend for the first time. Meanwhile, investors kept a close eye on geopolitical developments. Overnight attacks in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah raised doubts on a recent US-Iran agreement to end the Middle East conflict, while nuclear talks scheduled in Switzerland were abruptly cancelled. After the close, the construction company Hochtief will be added to the DAX, replacing Volkswagen subsidiary Porsche SE, which will be moved to the MDAX.
