Retail sales in Germany declined by 0.2% month-over-month in March 2025, reversing a downwardly revised 0.2% gain in the previous month but performing better than market expectations of a 0.4% decrease.

It marked the first drop in retail turnover since December, driven primarily by a 0.6% fall in non-food sales.

Meanwhile, food sales rose by 0.3%, and e-commerce and mail-order sales increased by 0.6%.

On a yearly basis, retail sales were up 2.2%, easing from a downwardly revised 4.3% gain in February.
