European shares edged lower on Thursday, with the STOXX 50 falling 0.3% and the broader STOXX 600 down 0.4%, as a Nvidia-driven rally in technology stocks failed to offset broader market weakness.
Oil prices also paused their recent decline, while uncertainty over a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz added to investor caution.
AI-related stocks remained among the strongest performers after Nvidia's upbeat sales outlook eased concerns over stretched valuations in the sector.
ASML Holding gained 1%, ASM International rose 2.4%, Siemens Energy advanced 2.7%, SAP added 1.6%, and STMicroelectronics surged 4%.
Meanwhile, personal and household goods, chemicals, and food and beverage stocks fell between 1% and 1.5%.
Among individual movers, Pernod Ricard dropped 7% after reporting a larger-than-expected decline in sales, while Delivery Hero gained 0.3% after raising its 2026 outlook.
Investors now await Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech on Friday.
