Ibovespa Ends Flat as Yields Edge Higher

The Ibovespa closed flat at 174,586 on Wednesday as earlier gains faded following the release of US PCE data.

The Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge came in above forecasts, raising expectations for a restrictive Fed stance and pushing global yields higher.

Vale declined 0.3% despite higher iron ore prices.

Meanwhile, Brazil’s inflation rate eased to 4.25% in the first half of August from 4.44% in July, remaining below the central bank’s 4.5% upper tolerance band and boosting expectations for a Selic rate cut.

Financials provided some support, with Bradesco rising 1.2 and Itaúsa up 0.4%.

Petrobras gained 0.2% despite lower oil prices amid renewed talks between Iran and Oman, while prices remained elevated and prospects for a US-Iran peace deal uncertain.

Sabesp added 1.5% after Itaú BBA reiterated its buy rating following the stock’s slump after its quarterly results.

Embraer rose 0.9% on news of plane acquisitions from LATAM and a likely bid win with the Indian government.

The Ibovespa rose near 1% to trade close to 176,000 on Wednesday amid evidence of slower inflation. The Brazilian inflation rate was at 4.25% in the first half of August from 4.44% in July, firmly below the central bank's upper tolerance band of 4.5%. Bond yields fell as lower inflationary pressures boosted expectations for a Selic rate cut. Financials traded higher, with Itaú and Itaúsa up about 1%, while Bradesco rose more than 1.5% and Banco do Brasil gained nearly 2%. Utilities also advanced, with Sabesp rising over 2.5% after Itaú BBA reiterated its buy rating following the stock’s slump after its quarterly results. Vale rose over 0.5% on higher iron ore prices. Ibovespa Falls on Energy and Mining Losses
The Ibovespa edged lower to trade below 171,500 on Tuesday, weighed down by losses in the energy, mining and industrial sectors. Petrobras shed nearly 1% as oil prices fell despite US sanctions on Iran. Industrial and retail stocks were mostly lower following consumer confidence data, which declined for the fourth consecutive month in August. WEG fell over 1%, while Ambev lost 0.5%. In retail, Ultrapar fell nearly 4%. Miners also posted losses as iron ore prices declined, with Vale edging lower and CSN Mineração losing more than 1%. Meanwhile, credit-sensitive sectors were mostly higher as lower oil prices offered some respite to financials and broader markets that have been under pressure from energy-driven inflation concerns. Bradesco and Banco do Brasil gained about 0.5%. Utilities were also mostly higher, with Sabesp adding nearly 0.5%.
