Brazil Retail Sales Grow Most in 10 Months

Retail sales in Brazil increased 0.8% from the previous month in March 2025, the strongest growth since May 2024, after a revised 0.5% increase in the previous month but below projections of 1.0%.
Sales in hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco rose 0.4% in March, with consumption of essential items remaining stable in the face of a still challenging economic scenario.
Other segments also recorded gains, including books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (+28.2%), office, computer and communication equipment and supplies (+3.0%), other personal and household goods (+1.5%), pharmaceutical, medical, orthopedic and perfumery articles (+1.2%) and textiles, clothing and footwear (+1.2%).
On the other hand, sales of fuels and lubricants fell (-2.1%) and furniture and household appliances also fell (-0.4%).
From the previous year, retail sales fell 1.0%, reversing February’s 1.5% gain and exceeding market expectations of a 0.5% decrease.
