Producer price inflation in South Africa fell for the second month to 5.7% in July 2026 from July's 7.5% and below the expected 6.1%.

The slowdown mainly reflected softer increases in prices of coal and petroleum products (24.4% vs 38.8% in June), particularly fuel costs such as diesel (29.4% vs 53.8%) and petrol (21.8% vs 36.5%), amid a decline in global crude oil prices.

Price growth also moderated across other categories, including non-metallic mineral products, which rose 7.5% year-on-year, down from 11.5% in June; paper and printed products, at 4.2% versus 8.5%; and textiles, clothing and footwear, at 6.6% versus 6.9%.

Moreover, transport equipment costs fell 1.4%, compared with a 0.6% increase in June.

On a monthly basis, the PPI decreased by 1%, after falling by 0.1% in the previous month.
