Global Dairy Trade Index Extends Gains

The Global Dairy Trade Price Index edged up 0.1% in the two weeks ended August 4, extending the previous auction's 1.5% increase, according to GlobalDairyTrade.

Prices rose for lactose (+4.1%), cheddar (+3.8%), skim milk powder (+1.2%), mozzarella (+1.0%), and whole milk powder (+0.2%).

These gains were partly offset by declines in buttermilk powder (-2.8%), butter (-2.3%), and anhydrous milk fat (-0.8%).

The Global Dairy Trade Price Index fell 4.9% in the two weeks ending July 7, 2026, following a 2.8% decline in the prior period, marking the third straight weekly drop and the steepest since July 2024. The decrease was led by sharp falls in cheddar (-12.3%), skim milk powder (-7.0%), butter (-5.0%), whole milk powder (-4.4%), anhydrous milk fat (-3.9%), and lactose (-3.6%). Meanwhile, buttermilk powder rose 8.2% and mozzarella gained 3.8%.

The Global Dairy Trade Price Index fell 2.8% in the two weeks ending June 16, 2026, after a 0.6% drop in the prior period, marking the largest decline since April. Mozzarella led the decreases (-5.0%), followed by skim milk powder (-3.6%), cheddar (-3.4%), whole milk powder (-3.1%), butter (-2.4%), and anhydrous milk fat (-1.0%). Lactose was the sole gainer, rising 4.2%.
