New Zealand Business Sentiment Jumps to 8-Month High

New Zealand’s ANZ Business Outlook Index jumped to 58.1 in October 2025 from 49.6 in September, marking its highest reading since February amid significant monetary easing and expectations of modest economic recovery.
Expected own activity strengthened (44.6 vs 43.4 in September), the highest since April, while past own activity was little changed (4.6 vs 4.5).
Investment intentions climbed (21.6 vs 17.5), supported by better credit access (24.8 vs 17.3) and higher profit expectations (20.6 vs 20.2).
At the same time, export intentions edged higher (17.3 vs 16.4), as did wage growth expectations (2.57 vs 2.39).
However, employment intentions eased (15.0 vs 16.4), pricing intentions softened (43.9 vs 45.9), and cost expectations inched up (75.8 vs 75.1).
Meanwhile, inflation expectations hit a one-year high (2.75% vs 2.71%).
In sectoral trends, residential construction intentions (36.6 vs 23.3), and commercial construction notched its highest print since April (33.3 vs 31.7).
