European stocks surged over 1% to all-time highs on Monday, with the STOXX 50 reaching 6,260 points and the STOXX 600 climbing to 640 points, following the US and Iran’s preliminary agreement to end their three-month conflict, which includes lifting the US blockade and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
A memorandum of understanding is set to be signed in Switzerland this Friday, though uncertainty persists as markets await further details and the status of Iran’s nuclear program remains unresolved.
The deal triggered a sharp drop in oil prices, reducing pressure on central banks to raise interest rates to curb inflation.
Money markets have scaled back expectations for rate hikes, now pricing in just one increase each from the ECB and the BoE by year-end.
