Canada New Housing Prices Unexpectedly Fall

New housing prices in Canada fell by 0.2% month-on-month in March 2026, after a 0.3% increase in February, defying market forecasts of a 0.2% rise. The house-only index edged down by 0.3%, following a 0.3% uptick in February, and the land-only component also fell by 0.3%, after a 0.3% rise in the preceding month. On an annual basis, new housing prices declined by 2.3%, following a 2.1% drop in the previous month.

New housing prices in Canada rose 0.3% month-on-month in February 2026, after a 0.4% decline in January, beating forecasts of a 0.3% decrease and marking the first price rise in a year. The house-only index increased 0.3%, rebounding from the previous month’s 0.6% fall. Meanwhile, the land-only component also rose 0.3%, following a flat reading in January. On an annual basis, new housing prices declined 2.1%, compared with a 2.3% drop previously.

The house-only index dropped 0.6%, extending the previous month’s 0.2% fall. Meanwhile, the land-only component was flat, following a 0.1% decrease in December. On an annual basis, new housing prices declined 2.3%, compared with a 2.0% drop previously.
