Ibovespa Rises as Airlines Surge After Merger Break

The Ibovespa inched higher to above 145,500 on Friday, as markets assessed the latest corporate news and continued to gauge the outlook on global rates.
Airline stocks surged after the cancellation of the Gol-Azul merger.
Gol was up over 7% and Azul more than 15%.
Brazil’s antitrust regulator had recently pressed the carriers to formalize their codeshare deal and warned against premature merger announcements.
Both confirmed the termination of the codeshare agreement as well.
Petrobras (+1%), major banks (Itaú +0.3%, Bradesco +0.4%), and retailers (Magazine Luiza +2%, GPA +4.5%) advanced.
On the other hand, Braskem lost over 7% after UBS downgraded the stock to “neutral,” after weak results and a sector downturn.
The company hired advisors to explore capital structure alternatives.
Vale (-1.4%) slipped with iron ore.
