The seasonally adjusted FGV-IBRE Consumer Confidence Index in Brazil fell to 83.6 in February of 2025, the lowest since August 2022, and in line with the poor momentum for Brazilian markets.
The result reflected the growing pessimistic rhetoric amid high interest rates, above-target inflation, and concerns over the impact of wider deficit spending.
The drop was solely due to a decline in the gauge measuring consumer expectations (87.3 vs 91.6 in January), while the gauge measuring the current situation for households remained unchanged (at 79.4).
