The NZX 50 dropped 75 points, or 0.6%, to 12,890 in Monday morning trading, retreating for the fifth consecutive session and marking its lowest level since April 29, tracking declines in U.S.
futures amid renewed escalation in US-Iran tensions.
Fresh data also pressured sentiment after the private sector continued to contract, with the services sector shrinking for the third straight month, though at a softer pace, while factory activity expanded at its slowest pace in seven months.
Investor sentiment was further subdued ahead of the release of a slew of Chinese economic data and the PBOC interest rate decision later this week.
Healthcare, financials, industrials, and utilities weighed on the index, with notable losses from Ryman Healthcare (-2.4%), Freightways Group (-1.6%), Fisher & Paykel Healthcare (-1.4%), Summerset Group (-1.0%), Infratil (-0.9%), and Auckland International Airport (-0.6%).
