CAC 40 Gains as Oil Prices Retreat
The CAC 40 rose 0.4% to close at 8,406 on Monday as a pause in US-Iran hostilities over the weekend sent oil prices lower. Crude prices fell after both countries halted strikes amid renewed diplomatic efforts, with President Donald Trump reportedly open to restarting peace talks. The decline in oil prices eased energy-driven inflation concerns, supporting the broader market. Financials led the gains, with BNP Paribas up 2.1% and AXA adding 1.2%. Luxury stocks also advanced amid lower risk aversion ahead of upcoming earnings, with LVMH up 0.9%, L'Oréal gaining 0.7%, Hermès rising 1.7%, and Kering adding 1.3%. Safran (+1.6%), Air Liquide (+0.7%), Airbus (+1.6%), EssilorLuxottica (+1.7%), and Danone (+1.4%) are also due to report earnings this week. Meanwhile, TotalEnergies fell 1.7% on lower oil prices, while Engie (-2.5%) and STMicroelectronics (-1.7%) were among the session's biggest laggards.

French Stocks Gain on Middle East Relief
The CAC 40 rose 0.7% to 8,428 on Monday, extending last week's gains as signs of de-escalation in the Middle East boosted market sentiment. The US and Iran halted hostilities following nearly two weeks of retaliatory attacks that had effectively derailed the June ceasefire. At the same time, Iranian and Omani officials discussed efforts to ensure the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, easing concerns over potential supply disruptions. Luxury stocks spearheaded the advance, with LVMH gaining 1.2% ahead of its first-half results release later today, while Hermès and Kering rose 2.3% and 2.4%, respectively. Other notable gainers included Airbus (+1.5%), Safran (+2.9%), BNP Paribas (+1.4%), and EssilorLuxottica (+2.1%). On the downside, TotalEnergies was among the few laggards, falling 2.4% as crude oil prices tumbled amid easing fears of supply disruptions in the Middle East.
