France Forex Reserves Fall Further

France’s official reserve assets declined further to €381.30 billion at the end of May 2026 from €386.90 billion in April.

This was the smallest amount since December 2025, amid decreases in gold reserves (€304.84 billion vs €310.09 billion in April), foreign currency reserves (€31.15 billion vs €31.65 billion), and other reserve assets (€6.46 billion vs €6.47 billion).

Meanwhile, claims on the IMF rose to €38.85 billion from €38.68 billion in the previous month.

In May 2025, total reserve assets stood at €304.61 billion.

France’s official reserve assets fell to €355.39 billion at the end of June 2026 from €381.30 billion in May, marking the lowest level since October 2025, primarily due to a sharp decline in gold reserves. Gold holdings decreased by €27.81 billion from the previous month to €277.03 billion. Meanwhile, claims on the IMF increased to €39.46 billion from €38.85 billion in May, foreign currency reserves rose to €32.42 billion from €31.15 billion, and other reserve assets edged up to €6.48 billion from €6.46 billion. In June 2025, total reserve assets stood at €294.72 billion.

France’s official reserve assets fell to €386.90 billion at the end of April 2026 from €390.63 billion in March, marking the smallest amount since December 2025. The €3.73 billion decline was due to decreases in all components, namely gold reserves (€310.09 billion vs €312.91 billion in March), foreign currency reserves (€31.65 billion vs €32.30 billion), claims on the IMF (€38.68 billion vs €38.86 billion), and other reserve assets (€6.47 billion vs €6.57 billion). In April 2025, total reserve assets stood at €303.06 billion.
