The FTSE MIB fell to around 52,300 on Tuesday, halting a three-day winning streak, as escalating tensions in the Middle East weighed on market sentiment.

Crude prices extended their gains after renewed US-Iran strikes fueled concerns over global supply, while President Trump announced plans to levy transit fees on ships using the Strait of Hormuz.

Losses were broad-based, led by financial stocks including Unicredit (-1.2%), Banco BPM (-1.6%), Mediobanca (-1.2%), Banca Mediolanum (-1.2%), BPER Banca (-1.7%), and Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (-1.0%).

Meanwhile, Telecom Italia slipped 0.7%, despite an Italian court rejecting Inwit's urgent request to suspend the company's withdrawal from a tower lease agreement.

Energy stocks continued to outperform, with Eni rising nearly 2% and Tenaris gaining about 1%, supported by higher oil prices.

FTSE MIB Edges Higher
The FTSE MIB gained 0.4% to close at 52,809 on Monday, supported by broad-based gains across sectors. Oil major Eni led the index, climbing 3.9% as oil prices advanced amid heightened uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz, despite conflicting claims over whether the waterway remained open. Tenaris followed with a 1.7% gain, while utility stocks also advanced as higher temperatures increase electricity demand for cooling. Stellantis added 2.6% on reports of stronger growth in North America, its most important market. Inwit rose 2.2% after a Milan court suspended TIM's withdrawal from their MSA. Financial stocks were also higher, with FinecoBank, Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMPS) and Mediobanca each gaining more than 1%. Meanwhile, the defense sector lagged, along with the technology sector after SK Hynix plunged 15% in Seoul amid renewed concerns over excessive valuations of artificial intelligence, with Leonardo (-1.3%), Prysmian (-1.3%) and Avio (-1.2%) leading the declines.

The FTSE MIB Index Closes 0.37% Higher
The FTSE MIB Index went up by 195 points or 0.37 percent on Monday to close at 52809 points. The rise was led by Eni (3.88%), Stellantis N.V. (2.42%) and Infrastrutture Wire (2.29%). On the downside, the weakerst performers were Prysmian (-1.91%), Leonardo SpA (-1.83%) and Avio (-1.20%).
