FTSE MIB Extends Gains

The FTSE MIB rose to around 49,700 on Thursday, extending gains from the previous session and approaching record highs, as investors tracked geopolitical developments and continued to digest the latest earnings reports.

Markets are closely focused on the Beijing meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, with hopes that the two sides can help stabilize relations between the world’s largest economies.

Across the bourse, STMicroelectronics led gains, up over 2%.

Heavyweight financials also advanced, including UniCredit (+1.1%), Mediobanca (+1.2%), BPER Banca (+1.4%), and Banca Mediolanum (+1.3%).

Meanwhile, Infrastrutture Wireless Italiane rose 0.4%, even after reporting a decline in first-quarter earnings while reiterating its 2026 revenue guidance.

The FTSE MIB Index Closes 1.00% Higher
The FTSE MIB Index went up by 490 points or 1.00 percent on Wednesday to close at 49481 points. The rise was led by STMicroelectronics (9.65%), Recordati (3.77%) and Stellantis N.V. (3.71%). On the downside, the weakerst performers were Nexi (-3.12%), Avio (-1.79%) and Snam (-1.36%).

The FTSE MIB rose 0.9% to close at 49,420 on Wednesday as investors focused on corporate earnings while continuing to monitor developments in the Middle East. Recordati gained 4% after reporting a 22.4% year-over-year increase in first-quarter net income and reaffirming its full-year 2026 guidance. STMicroelectronics surged 9.9%, tracking gains across the broader European semiconductor sector. Other notable performers included Prysmian (+4%), Stellantis (+3.4%), and Tenaris (+2.6%). Meanwhile, Snam fell 1% despite posting strong first-quarter results, while Infrastrutture Wireless lost 1.1% ahead of its earnings release.
