Italy Industrial Sales Rise 0.6% MoM in May

Italy’s industrial turnover increased 0.6% month-on-month in May 2026, after a revised 0.2% fall in the previous month.

Foreign sales rebounded (1.6% vs -0.8% in April), while domestic sales rose at a softer pace (0.1% vs 0.2%).

On an annual basis, industrial turnover, adjusted for calendar effects, grew 5.3%, accelerating from a revised 2.7% gain in April, driven by higher sales in both the domestic (4.7% vs 2.8%) and foreign markets (6.6% vs 2.4%).

By industrial group, the energy sector continued to post the strongest growth (28.6%), followed by capital goods (6.6%) and intermediate goods (6.1%), while consumer goods sales decreased (-1.4%).

Meanwhile, turnover in the services sector edged up 0.2% month-on-month after remaining unchanged in April, supported by increases in professional, scientific, and technical activities (2.0% vs 1.6%), real estate activity (1.8% vs 0.4%), and accommodation and food service activities (1.1% vs 0.8%).

Italy’s industrial turnover rose by 0.3% month-on-month in April 2026, slowing from a downwardly revised 1.8% increase in March, which had marked the highest growth since September 2025. Growth in domestic sales eased to 0.8% from 2.2%, while foreign sales fell by 0.6%, reversing a 1.2% gain in the previous month. On a yearly basis, industrial turnover, adjusted for calendar effects, increased by 3.2%, after a downwardly revised 4.2% growth in March. Sales growth slowed in both the domestic (3.5% vs 4.4% in March) and foreign markets (2.6% vs 3.9%). Among industrial groups, energy recorded a sharp increase (37.1%), while intermediate goods (4.7%) and capital goods (0.8%) also posted gains, more than offsetting a decline in consumer goods (-3.5%). Meanwhile, turnover in the services sector edged up by 0.1%, following a 1.1% rise in March, as growth in other services (0.8%) offset a decline in wholesale trade (-0.6%).

Italy Industrial Sales Growth Hits 6-Month High
Italy’s industrial turnover increased by 2.0% month-on-month in March 2026, the biggest gain in six months, accelerating from a downwardly revised 0.5% rise in February. Sales in the domestic market rebounded sharply (2.3% vs -0.2% in February), offsetting a slowdown in foreign sales (1.5% vs 1.8%). On a yearly basis, industrial turnover, adjusted for calendar effects, jumped by 4.4%, following a 0.5% increase in the previous month, driven by strong gains in both domestic (4.5% vs. 0.4%) and foreign (4.1% vs. 0.7%) sales. By industrial grouping, robust growth was recorded in energy (25.3%), alongside increases in capital goods (5.8%) and intermediate goods (4.9%), while consumer goods declined (-1.4%). Meanwhile, turnover in the services sector rose by 1.3% month-on-month after falling 0.1% in February, supported mainly by a renewed increase in wholesale trade (2.1% vs -0.1%).
