Italian Consumer Morale Below Forecasts

Italy’s consumer confidence index fell to 92.4 in June 2026 from 93.4 in the previous month, missing market expectations of 94.5. The future climate sub-index edged down to 87.2 from 87.4, while the economic climate showed modest improvement, rising to 87.6 from 86.2 in May. On the other hand, both the personal climate and current climate deteriorated, falling to 94.2 from 96.0 and to 96.2 from 98.0, respectively.

Italy’s consumer confidence index rose to 93.4 in May 2026 from 90.8 in April, beating market expectations of 90.1 and marking the highest reading in three months. All main components strengthened, led by a broad-based rebound in expectations. The economic climate sub-index increased to 86.2 from 82.7 in April, while the future climate rose to 87.2 from 82.5, reflecting improved perceptions of the broader economic outlook. The personal climate also improved to 96.0 from 93.8, while the current climate edged higher to 98.0 from 96.9.

Household sentiment deteriorated across most main components, except for assessments of the household budget and opinions on saving. The economic climate sub-index dropped sharply to 82.7 in April from 88.1 in March, reflecting rising concerns over the national economic outlook. The future climate also edged lower to 82.5 from 85.3, while the personal climate slipped to 93.8 from 94.2. The current climate eased to 96.9 from 98.0.
