French Stocks Open the Week Slightly Lower

The CAC 40 edged 0.2% lower to around 8,467 on Monday, extending losses from the previous week as investors adopted a cautious stance ahead of a packed week of developments surrounding US-Iran tensions and key policy signals.

Markets are awaiting further details on the US administration's proposed Iran sanctions, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent set to hold a press conference later today as Washington seeks broader international backing for the measures.

Attention will also turn to the Jackson Hole symposium, where Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's remarks on Friday are expected to offer fresh insight into the US interest-rate outlook.

In Europe, investors continue to price in a 25-basis-point ECB rate hike in September following the central bank's tightening move in June.

Among individual stocks, TotalEnergies fell 0.6%, Schneider Electric lost 0.5%, Safran declined 0.6%, and Stellantis dropped 2.9%.
