The CAC 40 Index Closes 0.80% Higher

The CAC 40 Index gained 67 points or 0.80 percent on Thursday to close at 8475 points. Gains were led by Schneider Electric (10.34%), Bouygues (7.13%) and Societe Generale (6.03%). Biggest losers were Sanofi (-9.44%), Capgemini (-4.76%) and Bureau Veritas (-4.58%).

The CAC 40 rose 0.9% to close at 8,486 on Thursday, rebounding as investors welcomed another round of corporate earnings and guidance updates. L'Oréal gained 2.7% after reporting higher sales and profit, with growth across all business divisions. Schneider Electric surged 10.8% after posting record first-half results and raising its full-year sales and profit guidance, supported by strong AI-driven demand and margin expansion. Société Générale advanced 5.7% after second-quarter results beat expectations, prompting the bank to raise its profitability target and announce a new share buyback program. Vinci climbed 4.7% after reporting first-half earnings and free cash flow above forecasts. In contrast, Sanofi slumped 8.9% after second-quarter net profit fell 91.3%, while Stellantis lost 4.3% as investors remained concerned about mounting competition from Chinese automakers and costly recalls in North America. Saint-Gobain (+0.6%) is due to report earnings after the market close.

On the economic front, preliminary estimates showed that France’s GDP expanded 0.2% quarter-on-quarter in Q2 2026, matching forecasts and rebounding from a revised 0.1% contraction in the previous quarter.
