CAC 40 Slips as US-Iran Truce Remains Fragile
The CAC 40 fell 0.2% to close at 8,367 on Monday as lingering uncertainty over the fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran weighed on sentiment. Both countries agreed to halt recent hostilities in the Gulf and resume talks over their dispute involving the Strait of Hormuz, following several days of strikes and counterstrikes after an Iranian projectile hit a cargo vessel in the waterway. Both sides have since accused each other of breaching the interim ceasefire agreed on June 17. Luxury stocks led losses amid renewed risk aversion, with LVMH down 0.7% and Hermès falling 0.6%. Investors also turned their attention to the upcoming ECB Forum on Central Banking, where key policymakers including Kevin Warsh and Christine Lagarde are expected to provide signals on the global economic outlook and the path of monetary policy. Financial stocks traded lower, with BNP Paribas down 0.7%. In contrast, industrial shares advanced, with Safran gaining 1.1% and Schneider Electric rising 0.7%.

French Stocks Open the Week Lower

Meanwhile, the spotlight is on the ECB's Sintra Forum this week, where leading central bankers, including Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh and ECB President Christine Lagarde, are expected to provide fresh insights into the global economic outlook and the trajectory of monetary policy. Among individual stocks, losses were recorded in BNP Paribas (-0.8%), Air Liquide (-0.9%), EssilorLuxottica (-1.1%), and Vinci (-1.5%).
