The CAC 40 climbed 1.3% to close at 7,847 on Wednesday as optimism regarding a diplomatic de-escalation in the Middle East supported a broad rally across European equities.
Sentiment was bolstered by reports of a 15-point framework and a proposed one-month ceasefire between the US and Iran despite continued strikes in the region and Tehran’s initial dismissal of the framework.
Defense and aerospace sectors remained primary drivers with Thales jumping 2.4% and Airbus rising 2.4% while Safran added 2.1% amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.
Financials also displayed notable strength as Société Générale gained 2.6% and BNP Paribas rose 1.7% following the retreat in global bond yields.
Additionally, healthcare and industrial leaders supported the index with Sanofi advancing 3% and Schneider Electric climbing 2.5%.
In contrast, energy and consumer discretionary stocks saw some pressure as TotalEnergies fell 0.4% following the slump in crude oil prices.
