This marked the lowest reading since January, as price growth moderated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.6% vs 6.5% in November), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (5.3% vs 5.8%), housing utilities (0.7% vs 3.3%), and transportation (7.6% vs 10.6%). At the same time, costs remained steady for health (11.1%) and hotels, cafes, and restaurants (5.3%), while it declined further for clothing and footwear (-6.6% vs -5.7%). Meanwhile, prices increased for household goods (2.7% vs 1.9%), communication (4.4% 2.4%), education (1.7% vs 1.6%), and miscellaneous goods and services (5% vs 4.6%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.6% in December, following a 0.2% drop in the preceding period.
