Producer prices in Estonia increased 4.7 percent year-on-year in August of 2017, following a 4.1 percent rise in July. It was the highest producer inflation since September 2013, as cost rose at a faster pace for both electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (10.4 percent from 8.3 percent in July) and manufacturing (4.3 percent from 3.7 percent). On the other hand, prices of mining and quarrying went up at a slower pace (4.7 percent from 5.4 percent in July) while inflation was steady for water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services (0.4 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 0.8 percent, accelerating from a 0.4 percent rise in the previous month.

In the first seven months of the year, the trade gap rose to EUR 1.3 billion from EUR 1.1 billion in the same period of 2016.

In contrast, cost fell: clothing & footwear (-0.5 pct vs 0.4 pct) and communications (-5.6 pct vs -5.8 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.4 percent, after gaining 0.7 percent in July.

It was the lowest level since October 2016 as manufacturing production rose at a slower pace (3.7 percent from 7.2 percent in June), mainly driven by an increase in output of machinery and equipment (21.8 percent from 15.6 percent), fabricated metal products (6.8 percent from 9.2 percent), electrical equipment (16.9 percent from 14.0 percent), food products (4.3 percent from 0.9 percent), and textiles (2.2 percent from -4.0 percent). Also, mining output went at a slower pace (26.1 percent from 95.4 percent in June), while electricity, steam and hot water supply production growth fell (-2.3 percent from 31.8 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production decreased by 3.1 percent.

Estonia GDP Annual Growth Rate at 5.70 percent  
The Estonian economy advanced 5.7 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2017, following an upwardly revised 4.6 percent expansion in the previous period. It was the strongest growth rate since the third quarter of 2011, boosted by fixed investment (18.2 percent from 16.8 percent in Q1), household consumption (2 percent from 0.9 percent in Q1) and government spending (0.6 percent from 0.1 percent in Q1). Meanwhile, net external demand contributed negatively, with exports growing 1.3 percent (7.3 percent in Q1) and imports increasing at a faster 2.2 percent (4.7 percent in Q1). On the production side, the biggest contributor to GDP growth was construction, followed by professional, scientific and technical activities, transportation and storage, information and communication, and energy. On a seasonally and working-day adjusted basis, the economy expanded 1.3 percent from the first quarter.
