The S&P TSX Composite fell about 0.8% to below the 32,300 level, pressured by weakness in technology and precious metals while banks also drifted lower.
Shopify dropped roughly 2.5%, extending losses in growth and software names, while Constellation Software rose about 2.5% after earnings but failed to offset broader tech softness.
Gold’s sharp decline weighed heavily on miners, with Barrick Gold falling over 3.5%, Agnico Eagle losing around 3%, and Wheaton Precious Metals down about 2%, as lower bullion prices pressured revenue outlooks.
Financials also contributed to the downside, with Royal Bank, TD Bank, Bank of Montreal, and CIBC all trading firmly in the red.
Energy stocks were mixed as softer crude benchmarks weighed on producers such as Imperial Oil and Cenovus, though pipeline operators including Enbridge and TC Energy posted modest gains.
