Canada Employment Growth Tops Forecasts

Canada’s employment rose by 60,400 (+0.3%) in September 2025, following a 65,500 decline in the prior month, and well above market estimates of a 5,000 increase.
Job gains were concentrated in full-time positions (+106,100; +0.6%), which more than offset a 45,600 (-1.2%) drop in part-time jobs.
There were more people working in manufacturing (+28,000; +1.5%), health care and social assistance (+14,000; +0.5%) and agriculture (+13,000; +6.1%).
On the other hand, employment decreased in wholesale and retail trade (-21,000; -0.7%).
Employment increased in Alberta (+43,000; +1.7%), New Brunswick (+4,700; +1.2%) and Manitoba (+3,900; +0.5%), while it declined in Newfoundland and Labrador (-2,200; -0.9%).
