Milan’s FTSE MIB rose over 1% to around 50,500 on Wednesday, reaching its highest level since early October, as global markets reacted positively to Democratic victories in both chambers of the US Congress.
Financial stocks led gains on the index, with UniCredit climbing 2.2% and Intesa Sanpaolo adding 2.4%.
FinecoBank also rose 3.3%, followed by BPER Banca (+3%) and Banca Mediolanum (+2.3%).
Technology stocks also traded higher, with STMicroelectronics gaining 1.4% and Technoprobe advancing 2.1%.
On the downside, Ferrari fell 2.3%, reversing part of Tuesday’s rally following an earnings beat and an upgrade to its full-year guidance.
Leonardo also underperformed, dropping 2.9%.
On the data front, a fresh PMI survey showed that Italy’s services sector expanded more than expected in October, although overall private sector growth slowed slightly.
