The FTSE MIB Index Closes 0.93% Higher

The FTSE MIB Index rose 460 points or 0.93 percent on Friday to close at 49857 points. Leading the gains are Leonardo SpA (4.46%), Brunello Cucinelli (4.28%) and Buzzi Unicem (3.93%). Top losers were Technoprobe (-2.58%), Moncler (-2.08%) and Banco BPM SPA (-1.64%).

Milan’s FTSE MIB fell 0.9% to 49,857 on Friday, recovering from prior-session losses as gains in heavyweight financial and defense stocks provided support. Defense stocks led the advance, with Leonardo surging 4.7%, followed by Fincantieri (3.4%) and Avio (1.2%) after Italy’s confirmation that it plans to increase defense spending to 1.6% of GDP in 2027 from 1.3% this year. Financial stocks outperformed, with UniCredit rising 1.4% after the ECB approved its increased stake in Commerzbank, paving the way for a takeover of the German lender, which is expected by the end of the year. Brunello Cucinelli climbed 4.3% after raising its 2026 revenue growth forecast to 12% and reporting double-digit revenue growth in the third quarter, standing out in a luxury industry still grappling with a prolonged slowdown. Campari advanced 2.1%. Moncler, however, fell 2.6% after Santander cut its price target on the stock. Tech stocks remained under pressure, led by Technoprobe (-5.2%).

UniCredit gained 0.6% after receiving ECB approval to take control of Germany’s Commerzbank, while Brunello Cucinelli jumped 4.0% after raising its 2026 outlook following stronger third-quarter sales. Other notable gainers included defense-related shares, with Leonardo advancing 2.7% and Fincantieri rising 2.6%, while Saipem added 1.6% and Stellantis gained 1.4%. On the other hand, Eni fell 0.4%, mirroring a modest decline in crude prices and facing disruptions at its Taranto refinery linked to protests over the former Ilva steelworks crisis. On the data front, investors awaited the final September inflation reading. For the week, the benchmark index was on track for a muted performance.
