The FTSE MIB fell to around 52,200 on Thursday, extending losses from the previous session, weighed down by declines in utility and tech-related stocks.
Oil major Eni fell more than 1% as crude prices eased despite persistent tensions between the US and Iran, while utility stocks such as Snam (-0.8%), Terna (-0.6%), Italgas (-0.6%), and A2A (-0.7%) also traded lower.
Meanwhile, semiconductor firm STMicroelectronics shed 2.6%, while Prysmian lost 1.9%, mirroring weakness among Asian technology peers amid renewed concerns over the sustainability of the AI trade.
Defense contractor Leonardo and aerospace firm Avio also fell 1.1% and 2.5%, respectively.
On the flip side, some financial stocks outperformed, with Mediobanca (+1.4%), Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (+0.9%), and UniCredit (+0.5%) posting gains.
