The FTSE MIB Index Closes 1.02% Higher

The FTSE MIB rose 0.5% to around 44,000 in early trading on Monday, extending gains from the previous session. Investors continued to monitor developments in the Iran conflict, following the latest reports that US President Donald Trump signaled openness to ending military operations even if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, as efforts to force Tehran to reopen the key oil route could prolong the war. Across the bourse, most heavyweight financials traded higher, including UniCredit (+0.7%), Intesa Sanpaolo (+0.6%), Banco BPM (+1.5%), and FinecoBank (+0.7%). Meanwhile, key laggards included Tenaris (-1.1%), STMicroelectronics (-2.6%), Eni (-0.7%), and Ferrari (-0.7%). On the data front, Italy is set to release its preliminary inflation reading for March later today. Despite the gains, the benchmark index remains on track for its worst month since June 2022, down over 5%.

The FTSE MIB Index gained 444 points or 1.02 percent on Monday to close at 43823 points. Gains were led by Ferrari NV (4.04%), Nexi (3.64%) and Terna Rete Elettrica Nazionale (3.24%).

The FTSE MIB rose 1% slightly to close at 43,823 on Monday, moving in line with its European peers as bond yields fell. Bond yields fell sharply, easing the threat of lower credit activity. Financials traded mixed, Generali gained 2% and Mediolanum advanced 1.9%, while UniCredit lost 0.6% and MPS was down 0.9%. Oil prices climbed further, backing energy producers despite stagflation worries, Eni surged 2.6%. The utiliies sector also posted gains, with Enel up 2.8% and Terna 3.4%. On the economic front, Italy's PPI fell 2.7% year-on-year, the sharpest drop since October 2024.
