FTSE MIB Extends Losses
The FTSE MIB fell toward 43,000 on Friday, extending losses from the previous session and underperforming its European peers. Traders remained focused on the cautious stance of major central banks, particularly the ECB and the Federal Reserve. Leading the declines was Infrastrutture Wire, which dropped more than 8% after cutting its 2026 guidance due to escalating conflicts with anchor tenants. Eni also slipped 0.9%, following weaker oil prices after the US indicated it is unlikely to deploy ground forces against Iran, while Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested a possible easing of sanctions on Iranian oil. Meanwhile, financials showed resilience, with strong gains for Banco BPM (+2.5%), Bper Banca (+1.5%), Mediobanca (+3.3%), UniCredit (+1.6%), and Intesa Sanpaolo (+1.3%). For the week, the benchmark index is set for a decline of over 1%.

FTSE MIB Slides on Renewed Oil Spike
The FTSE MIB fell 2.3% to 43,701 on Thursday after new Iranian attacks on Middle Eastern energy infrastructure, including a major Saudi refinery and a Qatari LNG facility, triggered fresh oil price surges. Italgas lost 2.5% amid the crisis, while Eni surged 3.7% on higher oil quotes. Meanwhile, the ECB kept rates unchanged as expected, but increased its forecast for inflation in the upcoming years to drive markets to price two rate hikes this year. In other news, Inwit plunged 15.6% to a 52-week low after Swisscom announced a joint venture with Telecom Italia (-5.7%) to build competing infrastructure, wiping out over one-sixth of its market value in one session.
