The FTSE MIB fell 0.4% to around 44,130 in early trading on Monday, marking a fourth consecutive session of losses as hostilities in the Middle East continued to weigh on investor sentiment.
The US-Israeli conflict with Iran has now entered its third week with no signs of easing, keeping oil prices elevated and complicating the outlook for inflation.
Shares of UniCredit declined 1.5% after the bank said it was launching an offer to increase its stake in Commerzbank to more than 30%, although it does not expect the move to give it full control.
Amplifon also shed more than 5%, despite announcing plans to acquire the hearing-aid business of GN Store Nord A/S.
Other notable decliners included Snam (-1.0%), FinecoBank (-1.0%), Telecom Italia (-1.1%), Stellantis (-1.7%), and Nexi (-1.7%).
