The Italian FTSE MIB steadied around 44,500 on Wednesday, following a three-day decline, with markets remaining focused on developments in the Middle East.

Remarks by Donald Trump on protecting oil shipments helped calm concerns about a major energy disruption.

Energy and defense stocks stayed in positive territory, with Enel (+1.4%) and Leonardo (+3%) gaining.

Luxury automakers also saw gains, including Stellantis (+1.7%) and Ferrari (+1.4%).

On the downside, Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena fell over 5% after reports indicated the bank is expected to announce a shortlist of candidates for its upcoming board of directors.

The bank’s acquired company, Mediobanca, also dropped more than 4%.

Most financial stocks were in the red, including Intesa Sanpaolo (-1%), Banco BPM (-1.3%), and Bper Banca (-1.2%).

On the data front, a fresh PMI survey for February showed that the services sector slowed, but less than expected, while overall private sector growth picked up.
