Italy's BTP Yield Rebounds

2026-10-14 14:32 By Larissa Caser 1 min. read

Italy’s 10-year BTP yield climbed to 4.58%, tracking higher US Treasury yields after higher-than-expected inflation data that raised bets of a Fed rate hike in October.

In Europe, ECB President Largarde stated that no sign of second-round effects of high energy prices on inflation were seen yet, although caution remains of persistent inflationary pressures.

As such, markets continue to expect a ECB hike in December.

In Italy, its largest business lobby, Confindustria, has warned of a worsening energy shock.

While its Italian economic growth forecasts for 2026 match the government's at 1%, growth for 2027 is seen lower at 0.6%, as the phaseout of free EU carbon permits could lead to loss of capacity and company closures.

This adds to concerns over Italy's 2027 budget plan that's set to be above the EU's 3% of GDP limit, on optimistic growth assumptions.

Italy’s debt-to-GDP ratio, currently at 138.6%, is also expected to surpass Greece’s this year as the eurozone’s most indebted country.
