The CAC 40 fell 0.7% to 7,992 on Tuesday, reversing the previous session’s gains and tracking losses across European markets as concerns over stretched AI valuations and persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East weighed on market sentiment.
Oil prices rose following reports of a US strike on Iran’s Qeshm Island, reversing recent losses driven by hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough between Washington and Tehran.
Domestically, sentiment remained under pressure from concerns over France’s fiscal outlook after Fitch Ratings unexpectedly revised the country’s outlook to negative, citing deteriorating public finances, elevated government debt and borrowing costs, sluggish economic growth and persistent political uncertainty.
Most stocks traded in negative territory, led by declines in STMicroelectronics (-3.1%), Dassault Systèmes (-2.3%), Safran (-1.4%), Schneider Electric (-1.3%) and Airbus (-1.2%).
