The CAC 40 Index Closes 0.12% Lower

The CAC 40 Index fell 10 points or 0.12 percent on Friday to close at 8072 points. Leading the losses are TotalEnergies SE (-1.06%), Airbus (-1.02%) and Danone (-0.96%). Top gainers were Societe Generale (3.44%), Accor (1.48%) and Stellantis NV (1.47%).

The CAC 40 closed little changed at 8,078 on Friday as lower oil prices and calmer bond markets supported equities, while losses in the luxury sector weighed on the index. Reports that the US and Iran were exploring a agreement that could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz eased concerns over energy supply disruptions. The pullback in oil offered respite to credit-sensitive sectors that have been under pressure from energy-driven inflation concerns. Financial stocks rose, with BNP Paribas adding 0.9%, Crédit Agricole rising 1.4%, and Société Générale advancing 3.5%. Meanwhile, luxury stocks closed lower amid renewed pressure from weaker Chinese demand, subdued consumer confidence, and softer earnings expectations. Hermès shed 0.5%, while Kering lost 1.1%. Industrials closed mixed, with Airbus (-1%) and Thales (-1.2%) down, while Schneider Electric (+0.4%) and STMicroelectronics (+0.5%) gained, tracking gains from US chipmakers. On the week, the CAC 40 shed 0.7%.

Banking stocks led the gains, with BNP Paribas (0.8%), Crédit Agricole (1.1%), and Société Générale (2.9%) among the strongest performers. Other notable advancers included STMicroelectronics (2.9%), Legrand (1.9%), and Schneider Electric (2.0%).
