The CAC 40 Index Opens 0.57% Higher

The CAC 40 rose 0.5% to 8,105.9 on Monday, following losses from the previous week as the continued decline in oil prices eased concerns over inflationary pressures. Sentiment improved on renewed efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, after Tehran conveyed conditions to the US through diplomatic mediators for ending the war. Sentiment was also supported by optimism ahead of this week’s closely watched Trump-Xi summit, after US and Chinese officials led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng met Sunday to lay the groundwork for the meeting. Banking stocks were among the top performers, with BNP Paribas (1.2%), Crédit Agricole (1%) and Société Générale (3.7%) advancing. Schneider Electric (2.7%), Airbus (1%) and Safran (1.9%) also posted gains.

The CAC 40 Index is gaining 46 points or 0.57 percent on Monday. Leading the gains are Societe Generale (4.00%), Capgemini (3.26%) and STMicroelectronics (2.95%). Top losers are Kering (-2.52%), ENGIE (-1.64%) and Hermes International (-1.24%).

The CAC 40 fell 1.5% to close at 8,065 on Friday, retreating after two consecutive sessions of gains as oil prices pared losses. The oil rally resumed after satellite imagery and industry sources indicated that three pumping stations serving Saudi Arabia’s vital East-West Pipeline were damaged in last week’s attack, one more than previously assessed, while the repair timeline remains uncertain. Luxury stocks fell amid higher risk aversion, with Hermes losing 3.2%. French bond yields moved higher amid concerns over energy-driven inflationary pressures. Financials also declined, with BNP Paribas down 2.9%. Meanwhile, the Fed and the BoJ raised rates earlier this week, while the BoE left interest rates unchanged. Still, traders pared back bets on further ECB tightening despite the Fed’s more hawkish stance, as concerns that persistently high energy prices could weigh on economic growth and eventually temper inflationary pressures. The CAC 40 shed 1.4% on the week.
